Château Grand Boise 'Liberté Chérie', Provence, France 2016
Regular price £54.50
This richly structured, densely flavoured red is not allowed to carry the ‘Côtes de Provence’ appellation label because it is produced with 100% Syrah. From vines found at 635m above sea level, it is aged for 12 months in oak barrels before spending a further 6 months in amphorae. Wonderfully balanced, with powerful blank fruit aromas backed up by more nuanced notes of wild herbs and pepper, before a long, saline and fresh finish.
Red Organic SyrahChâteau Grand Boise
Vines have been grown in this area since the Roman era and the Grand Boise estate is certainly a throwback to a more traditional way of farming, with organically-cultivated vines sitting alongside olive groves and woodland in a truly balanced eco-system, all located opposite the stunning Montagne Sainte-Victoire. Family-owned, the Grand Boise estate can be traced back to 1610, although came to being in its current form when the land of three estates was combined in 1879. The vineyards are located at relatively high altitude, with vines found between 300m to 640m above sea level. The combination of this altitude with good exposure to the sun gives beautifully fresh wines with excellent balance, all produced without the use of fertilisers or pesticides.
