Woodlands vineyard was established in 1973 by David and Heather Watson in Wilyabrup, and was one of the first five vineyards to be planted in the Margaret River wine region. David and Heather aimed to create wines to emulate the great vineyards of Bordeaux. However, in 1992 Woodlands production virtually ceased when David and Heather decided to focus on their work/life balance in order to bring up their children. Throughout this period they continued to cultivate their wines yet opted to sell their fruit to other high profile producers in the region. In 1999, with their children out of school, Woodlands began to produce wines again, making the most of its fully mature vines. Since then, their production has gone from strength to strength and they are now quite rightly recognised among the shining lights of the region.
